My first CW experience
Did LHR-BOS and return last week in CW on a BA 747-400. I have to say that overall I was impressed. A few things surprised me though:
1, CC work really really hard. Especially on the day-time leg they were working flat out constantly (the flight was full) with not a moments rest. They were all young, keep and smiley and whilst one of them lacked some finess (spraying my ear with beer) they really impressed me.
2, Food and drink service is quite a ceremony. With boarding drinks and then 3 drinks runs and then a three course meal there was only time for a single film. I though that CW was for business people but if you actually wanted to get some work done, you might find all the service intrusive. I just enjoyed it and thought that the food was rather good.
3, LHR and BOS lounge food was disappointing. At LHR I wish I had gone to one of the restaurants rather than tried to maximise the CW experience. Food at BOS was OK, but for a sleeper service it could have been better and the lounge wasn;t exactly spacious (could have done with more changing rooms given that there was only one cubical in the loo for changing in)
4, priorty luggage really worked. Saved me time both legs.
5, priority screening at BOS was slower than the general line which was slow itself.
6, Upstairs in the 747 was too hot to sleep. I'll try downstairs next time.
and lastly...
7, the cabins of both aircraft were filthy!! Clearly the a/c are hoovered and rubbish picked up regularly, but do they ever get a deep clean? scuff marks everywhere, drip marks from the ceiling, and the black "animal grease" of the kind you get round mouse holes (although presumably from humans) on all frequently touched hard surface (top of IFE, locker catches etc) really quite revolting and actually shows up worse in CW because you ave more light-coloured hard surfaces.
