Also, right now I get an extra luggage allowance with SQ as I am a KrisFlyer Gold. If I have the Mileage Plus Premier Gold, would I still get this extra allowance?
Thanks again.
A one way award business class ticket on United would be 60,000 miles and $21.70 in taxes. (flying EWR-NRT-SIN). Just double that for a R/T.
It is tough/if not impossible to find premium cabins on SQ via Mileage Plus. I did find JFK-ICN-SIN flying Asiana F from JFK and then SQ business from ICN to SIN. that was 70,000 miles one way + $11.10 in taxes
Mileage plus usually has easy access to Asiana, ANA, Air China. You can find SQ economy occassionally. Also, you can go the long way and go EWR MUC/FRA SIN on LH if you want to spend 18-20 hours in an airplane along with a long connection between flights! UA lets you get to Asia via Europe when heading East-ward. I also saw an EWR-LHR-SIN option with the LHR-SIN being in SQ Y.
As a Star Gold you get a break on luggage allowance as well with United. 3 checked bags at 70lbs each.
