As long as you are not too close to the size limits, you might want to stop by a DIY store and pick up some bead board (Owens Corning in the US sells something called Foamular that is pink in color and is of better quality). Its intended to be used as insulation between walls, but its very easy to cut down to size, so you can make a "create" out of it to put around the box of your TV. It will not make it exempt from damage, but it should give it some more protection.
Its rated by how much thermal energy it can keep inside (or outside) of your home and comes in 16' x 8' sheets (about 40cm x 243 cm), but just get the thickest that you can. If the winters are mild Armidale, I don't think you can get it much thicker than 2 or 3 cm. In NY, I can get it to about 5 cm (2").
Its really lightweight, I doubt it will add more than a a couple of pounds (1 Kg), if even that much.
