Welcome to FT!! Most, but not all, of the card offers will waive the first year's fee. So just search this forum and the MilesBuzz! forum for cards that will work for you. You can always cancel the card at the 11th month.

When you say "backup" are you interested in earning hotel points, cash back or airline miles? Give us some clues.
