I'm not sure a city as important as London really needs all the fanfare that lesser cities might need to hype up the fact they are holding the games. The locals will know they are about to happen and anyone who wants to see them live will already have bought their tickets and made travel arrangements. The rest is up to the media.

They are certainly getting some coverage where I am.
