indeed this seems to be the advice from the agents these days. It used to be that they could just make a change, and sometimes you wouldn't be charged the fee for that... but now it seems to be the whole cancel thing and rebook, and they don't guarantee the seats for the rest of the segments will still be available.
Just a question on this, if you want to change the class on one leg, why can't they just book a second flight for that segment then cancel the first one?
So if you were booked JKF-FRA in I, they create JFK-FRA in O and then cancel JKF-FRA in I?
