thanks for all the help. I don't understand the concept of married segments but from a practical standpoint what do I tell the car to book these flights?

This is interesting. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first documented example of married segment availability being different from segment by segment when it comes to awards. I know it happens on TAM but that's only because they have a limit on how far out you can book awards.
