Am I missing something henkybaby? Your profile shows FB Plat. which as long as you do one flight (which you have obviously) you will still be FB Gold anyway as you will have a soft landing...Not much difference between Gold and Plat. really anyway...

* Alliance is another matter but I believe you were mostly talking about KL/AF...

Regardless of the situation, why not simply forget about trying to get status on the other two alliances and then just take whatever flight is best for that work trip...use the extra cash you would have spent on maintaining status on the drinks and food in a airport bar/restaurant that you can choose and likely get better service and quality than the lounges...and if you really need the extra room / bed then pay for that out of your pocket for that once or twice occurrence that is long haul (for short haul...is it really a problem if the flight is only 1 -2 hours long?)

I did the same status matches you did and in my case can say that OW is best for my needs...happily will maintain BA Gold as long as possible but will let the others fall...didn't see much difference with or without status for those flights I took and certainly not for any short haul * A or FB...

Besides, it will just reinforce your enjoyment when you do fly BA.
