If I were alone traveling without checked luggage, I would always book this short connection. If the incoming flight is too much delayed, than AF would accommodate me on the next VCE flight. This is much better than booking the next VCE flight and having nothing to do in case the incoming flight is on time or slightly delayed.
Your problem is that you have checked bags and many family members. Bags can get lost or take a long time to reach you in case of a short connection or if you miss your connection and take a later flight. Also JFK tends to be crowed in the evening, so there is a good chance that your JFK flight gets delayed (as you observed).

That being said, I would stick with the current flights as you do have a reasonable transfer and AF will look after you if you are delayed, especially as you travel in J.
Typo - scheduled arrival is 0835, so 1:15 connection time. But your points are well taken. My concern is split PNRs and fact these aren't J revenue tickets. They are premium economy, upgraded with Delta currency/certs. My preference is to rebook on Delta's JFKVCE nonstop, but I need to explore economics and upgrade strategy first. Thanks for your thoughts, and good luck flying this summer - Jamie
