Exactly.

I'd rather do 5x$1000 trips than 1x$5000 trip. But thats because I have more free time than the usual 2 weeks vacation a year corporate slave.

The money spent on that $5000 ticket can last much longer on the ground. But again, if I was unfortunate enough to just do one vacation a year - I dont see anything wrong with dropping the money on a ticket.

Its all relative and different for each person. I dont think its a question of affordability -while a lot of people could technically "afford" it, its more of a question of resource (money) allocation. To 99% of the population, it would be a waste of money.
