I just recently booked my first personal international J flight YYZ-Europe. The main reason I did it was that it was "only" about $1,000 more than the extortionate ~$1,600 that AC wanted to fly in the back of the bus. 10 years ago I never would have dreamed of donig that but this Forum has taught me for better and worse to balance the "relative" price of the two offerings and decide accordingly.

Now as to your question, Here is my take... I think it depends on a number of factors in addition to income:
1. People with under $100,000 income might "splurge" on a J ticket priced at say $4K or less for special events such as:
  • honeymoon
  • once in a lifetime extravagant trip

2. Retirees with low income but lots of assets who figure they have earned the comfort and pampering and see no need to take their wealth to the grave with them. they likely don't buy the $10K tickets but would be active buyers in the $2-4K range.

3. Six-figure income earners who don't travel that often (e.g. one major trip per year) but when they do they want to do it right.

4. Seven figure and above income earners who earn more than they can spend and hence money is no object.
