You could try to see if you can get a free one-way to JFK and convince them that that's your actual North American gateway. You would have to fly the one-way, else your ticket would be canceled. Also, unless your miles came from an EXP account, it would be $150 to change origin.
You could have a stopover in YVR the way you have it set up now. CX 889 one-day to YVR, stopover, then CX 889 to HKG (or 837 on the days where it has F).
