Chances to change AA Miles Saver at airport? (just 1 seat available per flight)

Hi,

I am BAEC member and would like to book a flight for 2 from JFK to LAX in F on a specific date. As only MilessAAver awards are available for BAEC customers, I checked Expertflyer:

6 seats available

but:
6 flights, 1 seat each.

What do you think would be the chances to either:

a) request BA to make 2 seats available by "swapping" one seat from another flight (or would AA be the ones to do this for me?)

or

b) come to the airport early and ask upon checkin if they could put us on one single flight

Has anyone ever done this before? I know that b) will come with the risk of flying separately.

Kind regards
