And the OP hasn't stated that he made other arrangements, and therefore a financial loss, after making his room reservation. That would make it somewhat different. And the hotel seems to have recognized it's mistake almost immediatly.
You are correct regarding the problem.
If it was a game I really really wanted to see, this would be the time to pull the "all-nighter" and then get a 6 AM flight out of Kiev.
