As an EXP, they opened one up for me on this exact same route last month. But no status makes it unlikely.
You should be able to book the award in F, and take a 'voluntary downgrade' to a MilesSaaver seat in coach. Set up an ExpertFlyer alert for MilesSaaver F availability, and as soon as you get a notification that a seat is available, call AA and ask them to fix your voluntary downgrade. That should be free of charge.
I assume they should be able to upgrade you to F at the gate, as you took a voluntary downgrade, but better to handle it before check in if at all possible.
Tip: Set up a few ExpertFlyer alerts for different DFW-SFO flights - anything that arrives at an acceptable time. Even if the F seat opens up on a different flight DFW-SFO, it should be a free change to move to a different flight on that same route. I believe you can even fly into SFO a day or two early, as you are allowed a stopover in SFO as the 'North American gateway'.
