Thank you everyone for the friendly responses. I also would like to clarify that I live in DC (and use DCA), and Chicago is where my client for the next year or so is; DCA to ORD is simple and easy with United, but annoying with DL (worried about layovers/delays...although I get more miles for my buck

)

Keep in mind that this call would be *after* the first reconsideration call. I believe I did mention moving credit line around, but they said I had to be above a certain credit line on the Marriott since it was the Premier card and that has a minimum credit line.

If it's extremely short, I'm not sure if they will be willing to work with you given they want to see some history on the Marriott first. Although, I would definitely call again. You never know which agent might pick up and be willing to grant 1k in credit that day.

You don't need the signature version, just the platinum version will do for the benefits. As a last ditch effort you could throw out the idea of closing the Marriott, but you might lose the sign up bonus if it hasn't been 6 months. Good luck!
It is extremely short, and yeah, that's what the lady I spoke with said; they want to see some history with the Marriott card. This second call won't hurt anything, will it? I ask because I received a second letter in the mail explaining the reason for rejection (and these reasons were what my reconsideration call was about...not enough history, and was different from the first letter...too many apps in a short time). The loss of sign up bonus would hurt, but I think with the amount of travel and my value of air travel over hotel stays, I think I'd take that hit if possible.

Since you will be living in Chicago, you could also fly AA since they have a hub in Chicago. Also, check out the Milesbuzz thread on the Citi AA CC and you could apply for the AMEX & Visa at the same time for 50K miles. It wouldn't hurt to have a stash of AA miles. (50K times 2 (100K) is a nice amount of miles to have in AA).
Thanks for the heads up. I have taken a direct flight to ORD from DCA with AA before, but that was a last minute ticket and AA had the cheapest. If possible, I was trying to stick with *A or Skyteam.

If his credit file is thin & new, I wouldn't get any more cards for a while. (6 months to a year to allow the OP's file to build). Don't charge too much on the cards & pay before statement "cuts" to keep utilization (statement balance relative to credit limit) low--the lower, the better. Also, never pay late and do not carry balances--that defeats the purpose of having a rewards card.
Thanks for the tips. I was worried about additional hits following reconsideration calls since like I said, I received a second rejection letter with new reasons after my call. Was not sure if this included a second hard-inquiry.
Thanks all! I think I may try again and even offer up to pay off and close my Marriott card in order to get a UA card instead.
