Miles for surviving spouse "used" to be transferred for free, now there is a fee?
When my father passed away, I sent (CO) copy of his death certificate and all his miles were transferred to my mother.
I have an uncle who recently passed away, and I told my aunt that his UA miles could be transferred to him by providing a death certificate.
After researching just a bit, it now seems there is a fee involved.
This from "Alex":
Alex: In the event of the death of a MileagePlus member, miles can be transferred to the surviving spouse or beneficiary for a fee. Please contact the MileagePlus Service Center using the information on this Web page.
However, I cant find the actual policy online - only a veiled reference to call the MPSC
Anyone know why the policy changed (let me guess.... $$$) and what the new policy and/or fees are for transfers?
What a horrible way to make $ if there is a fee involved now.
