If the human improperly puts the data in the system, how are you allowed to board the standby flight?

Either you must have an underlying paid ticket to be allowed to board a flight standby, or any gate/ticket agent can put anybody on a standby list without a payment instrument associated, which would seem like quite the potential for misappropriating inventory!

Either way, systems problem.
