Your companion has a
chance at an upgrade he/she wouldn't have otherwise. That's a considerable advantage over the other non-Medallion passengers on the flight.
Methinks you would also complain if regularly riding in coach because DM's were getting upgraded ahead of you with their non-status companions. (I know I wouldn't like it.) You can't have it both ways.
