US-China, both UA and CA are considered home airlines, depending on which country you're from. CA in this market is cheaper, especially Business Class. UA C fare is outrageous at >$9000.
Several years ago, I had to fly one-way PEK-NYC. The CO C fare was the same as the CA F fare (~$5k o/w), so I was able to convince my corporate travel agent to let me fly CA F (I told them I refused to fly CA J

). I even forewent the CO miles (I probably already had Platinum and this was before SWUs).
It was worth it for the privacy and extra space (and fully flat bed), even if the catering wasn't that good. There's a review/TR that I wrote on here somewhere...
