I really have no idea, but "date on which transportation commences" and "date of initial use" seem to mean the same thing to me: the day of your first flight.

A strict reading would imply that the ticket's validity resets to one-year after flying the first segment.

I've always heard that tickets are valid one-year from ticketing, however. Perhaps someone else can clarify?
