So in the OP's case, if the ticket is issued with 001, then the one year clock starts from the date of issuance, is this correct?

In what way he can enjoy the one year validity from the date of first travel based on AA's international tariff and not be governed by the other rule?

Or he is "cheated" out of the better validity rule just because his ticket is 001 stock?
