If Southwest interlined, there could have been an interline agreement with Cape Air on LNS-BWI. Southwest decided not to serve MDT, so an interline would have been a way to cover Central PA. MDT and LNS, servicing Central PA, have a catchment of 2 Million people.
Cape Air wants out of the route and the proposed carrier wants a greater (but totally illogical) subsidy out from EAS, and wants to fly LNS-IAD instead. LNS-BWI may have done better if the largest carrier out of BWI, that is WN, interlined.
At this point, it'd make more sense for LNS to have service to PIT, and the subsidy to be covered by PA to promote intra PA travel rather than being footed from funds from all US taxpayers. Even if it was just 1-2x daily rather than 5x.
Atleast from suburban areas in the Philadelphia (e.g. Malvern), Reading and Allentown, as well as Central PA, it'd be an option to reach PIT from LNS, probably better than PHL-PIT. WN got out of that route, and US fares have more than doubled. Most in SE PA VFR to PIT area would rather drive, but LNS is on the way and a smaller airport to get through. LNS offers free parking as well.
