Some FTers have wondered why the aircraft didn't proceed to ATL or JFK, where the passengers would probably have had much greater flexibility in rearranging their travel.
Another consideration with a tire failure on takeoff is gear retraction. You normally would not want to retract the gear as the shredded tire could get caught up in the retraction mechanism preventing if from being extended again for landing. Without the ability to retract the gear you aren't going to continue the flight.
