If you are meeting a group in Bangkok I would just head into Bangkok as the night time roads will be quicker than the next day.
I have stayed in Novotel Airport and it is OK. The rooms are small. Breakfast not too bad.
I would head into town then you have a whole day at your disposal the next day.
