I realize this is an old post, but I've just now joined FlyerTalk, and it's the first post I'd like to respond to.

I was born and grew up in the Two Bridges neighborhood, and we definitely called it that. There was a community newspaper that included the name, too. I don't know if it's used much any more (I haven't lived there for a long time). The neighborhood is part of the larger Lower East Side, which at the time also included what's now called the East Village -- a name created by real estate people. I still think of the East Village as part of the Lower East Side.
