While it is possible for the Pilot to vary the pressure, it is an automated system and they would not be too likely to touch it outside of an emergency. It is on the critical path for accidents.

Besides, the cabin is "pressurised", but to 8000 feet (newer a/c to 6k). So in fact the pressure is lower than you're used to, but higher than outside at 36000 ft.
