Beltway, thanks for the links to the master threads. I already read some of them. I just started this thread for the weather reason and to be able to compare some of the resorts.

I think, I will stick with the LM Koh Samui. LM Khao Lak and especially Naka Island look great, but looking at climate charts Koh Samui seems to be much drier this time of the year. (http://www.travelfish.org/weather/thailand)
It’s a pity that they don’t have a beach there, but as I read in the master thread there should be some nice beaches near the hotel. Definitely a good excuse to rent a scooter
Yes, from my experience traveling around that time period, definitely stick to the Gulf side. Less chance of a rain out. Also, if you aren't dead set on Starwood properties, I had a really good time at the Koh Samui Centara Resort. Though if you have status, I would probably stick to Starwood.
