The only real choices are Corstorphine or North.

Both will like you.

As a plat you will get an exec room in Corstorphine, which is OK. Breakfast is OK apart from the dire coffee. Evening meals are overpriced and not so special, but Smapans chinese in the hotel is quite nice.
Not much to do around. This is the easiest hotel to drive to Livingston. The traffic jams on the Gogar roundabout caused by tramsworks not quite so bad last week or so. Tesco Extra/costa/pizza/pubs 7-8 mins walk. Bar noisy, nowhere to sit outside to drink.

North is an extra 10 minutes on the drive to Livingston. Small shopping centre opposite inlcuding Sainsburys and M&S Food. Bar is smaller and quiet-ish and you can sit outside. As a plat you are likely to get a suite with seperate living room and 2 tvs, and a nice view of the castle. Avoid top floor rooms due to aircon noise.

Personally I stay often in both. If I was you I'd stay a week in each and see what you prefer.
