Android App to Find Available Wi-Fi Signals While Traveling?

Can someone suggest a good stumbler application for Android? That is, an app that will 'ding' whenever you are near an open wifi hotspot, then automatically connect to it.

My wife's iPhone has such an app (obtained before they were yanked from the iTunes store in March, 2010). It has been a real boon when we were walking in European and Asian cities, to be able to check email in those random locations where free wifi signals are floating about.

There are quite a few Android apps that may be equally useful, but most seem to do a lot of mapping, signal strength measurements and need GPS turned on. I just want something that will alert me when I'm in a location where I can send and receive accumulated emails. Any recommendations for Android?
