One hour between connecting flights doesn't leave any room for error...most experienced travelers would likely recommend at least 2 hours at a minimum, especially for international flights/connections. If there is any delay in take-off on the first flight, it's possible you may miss your connection. Example: I recently took a flight from Bangkok to San Francisco, with a connection in Tokyo and a two-hour lay-over. My flight leaving Bangkok was an hour and ten-minutes late taking off and my connecting flight was already boarding as my plane was landing in Tokyo. I had to dash from the landing gate to boarding gate to make my flight (same airline as well).

Also, as mentioned, some airports have security screenings even for transit passengers who never leave the terminal when making connections (Tokyo being one) and this will cause additional delay). Good luck and enjoy your first international flight.
