"Shinto Temple" -Revised translation considered for Ise Shrine

It is reported that Ise Shrine is considering changing its name's official translation to English from shrine to temple. Looks like they'd rather be called "a shinto temple".

In Japanese schools we have been taught

Shinto place of worship: shrine
Buddhism place of worship: temple

Kokugakuin University Assistant Professor Norman Havens is for the new way and comedian Dave Specter is against it. I am confused.
