One nice thing that AA does (unless this has changed very recently) is that if you put a flight on hold and the fare decreases before you actually book it you will get the lower fare. This has happened to me a number of times and why I first put the flight on hold and then book it the next day (unless the fare is set to expire after that day.)
I had a weird experience with fares on hold changing prices. I was over a month out also (~40 days). Ever hear of this happening? Old fare was ~250 AI TUS-AUS then they wanted about 400.
