I believe as a C class passenger you have complimentary access to the Oryx lounge in the main terminal, should you choose it instead of the Premium terminal (I'm pretty sure but you might want to check that). Therefore you can stay with your friend throughout the transit, I think it's US$39 for his entry.

Explain the situation to the Cabin crew & take the economy bus to the terminal or, if you prefer, go to the PT & ask to transfer to the main terminal as you're meeting a friend. It's not normally a big problem.
