I'd like to book a deal that would bring me into LAX on UA from SFO with 45 min between scheduled arrival and departure on US late at night. I'm an experienced traveler, and know that the US terminal is across from UA's, but never attempted a connection like this. I'll be in the front of the plane with carry-on only. Thanks!
If on a single ticket, I'd go for it--I've never attempted to enter security at T1 late at night, but since WN isn't much for red-eye flights, I'd think the security lines should be OK. On a single ticket, if you misconnect, the airline will put you on the next flight (granted, it'll probably be the next morning, and depending on the circumstances of the misconnect, they may not provide a hotel).
If on two separate itineraries, though, I would not try this at all. Too much can go wrong, and then you're screwed. My personal minimum buffer for separate itineraries is around four hours at the low end, depending on flight schedules (I might be OK with tighter if there were lots of alternative routings possible if I misconnect upline and I wouldn't have to worry about reclearing security).
