She planned a girls weekend a while back, she put the miles, her companion put the hotel. The date was changed 2x. She called AA to inform of change of date, but they indicate that this falls under their "travel agent" division. The trip was cancelled, and she was told that miles will be re-instated, she also had to re-book her trip all over again on dynamic award for the new update. A week or so latter, her miles still were not deposited. I called AA and ask on it, the agent looked into it and asked me if my wife wanted the miles deposited to her account.

Of course, besides there was no cost to it. 3 days latter, the miles were back. The same scenario repeated itself when the date had to be changed a 2nd time. This time she mentioned to the aggent upon award cancellation that she wanted her miles deposited. Once again a week goes by and nothing. Another call to AA and same scenario, do you want miles re-deposited?
She already took her trip, and she did noticed that there was no notation on the passengers manifest that she was EXP on both legs of her trip. She discovered it when she asked for her snack and drink (free to EXP on coach) and the FA indicated that there was no notification of an EXP traveling on coach. Not sure what to make of this, as her BP did have priority access on it. She did get her drink and snack on both legs, and boarded with priority access, however her traveling companion (non status, no AA#) was group 2. I thought that my wife status will transfer over, since the tickets were bought from her account. This was our first time using dynamic awards. Not bad as the miles were minimal, and she also got 10% of her miles used back too.
Not sure on others experience, but this seems to be common issue.
