I searched and haven't found an answer to this. I have a Y-class HKG-SFO-BWI flight coming up. The website shows I can upgrade for 20,000 miles but while I am confirmed a seat on the domestic leg, I'll be waitlisted for the international one, which is of course, what I want it for. If that doesn't come through and I thus do not want the domestic upgrade, will they refund the miles?
