AAdvantage supervisor override powers

I had an award ticket (milesaaver) booked BOS-LIM round trip in business...

...Changed my mind and tried to change to BOS-BUE... Only one was (outbound) was available, and the inbound stayed the same. AA changed my flight back to BOS to have a layover in ecuador..

I tried back daily to try to get the BUE-BOS fight booked and was willing to pay the change fee because BUE-LIM is pretty damn expensive. Only Aanytime tickets were available for way more miles.

After a few tries, i asked to speak to a supervisor just to ask about the layover in guayaquil - she felt bad about the odd layover (11 hours..ouch!) so she did some sort of magic system override and put us on the BUE-BOS route for milesaaver price, no fee, no nothing.

Does this typically happen? FYI, this happened last week and we're flying in 3 weeks!
