Book the 1-way home. As long as you don't care about losing the value of your original return flight, go for it.

After you are home safe and sound though, at least call or go online and officially cancel your original return trip. This will open your seat up for others trying to fight for a slot to get somewhere. Don't do it the "no-show" way.
