In practice, Gold and Plat can BOTH referr for either Gold or Plat.
You choose the type of card you want to refer after selecting the one you have from the refer a friend page.
As a plat you should be able to confirm you are all setup to do this yourself by logging into your account.
[Or is your plan to get the plat yourself, then refer a significant other for the Gold? etc - if so, many of us happy to refer you for the plat as well!]
