Many of you mention that its a fine luxury property and the next poster says he won't stay there before a completed renovation. I admit I generally have very high expectations for luxury properties and don't want to be disappointed here.
Maybe I will do one night at each hotel just to check out the situation...
first of all - the St Regis is not "right down the block" and even though it is in a "decent" location, you have a lot of walking to do to get to any public transportation and in the heat and rain, it can be a pain - with the SGS, you leave the lobby onto the BTS and you are where you want to be.

I understand the points about the physical plant and it all boils down to what is important to you - I have been at the hotel >40 times and swear by the place because of the "soft product" and the way the property is managed.

The room furnishings are dated and can be updated but there is nothing "wrong" with them! The rooms are HUGE, nice flat-screen tv, great reading lights over the bed - the place is immaculate, the mattresses and bedding are first rate, the bathroom amenities (robes, towels, etc) are abundant, the gym is good, the pool area is nice for an inner city pool, and the Plat benefits are excellent - especially the complementary morning wake up coffee and drinks at Bar SU

The bottom line is that I can deal with staring at green tiles when I am in the bathroom which I frankly don't even notice because all of the other parts of the property "work" so well.
