I asked this on the AA board but perhaps this is a better place for it:

We are booked on a CX flight that leaves LAX-HKG-SIN at 1:35am.

Now I'm looking at booking separate tix from AUS-LAX on AA leaving 12:30pm and arriving at LAX at 1:30pm the day before. (12 hr layover)

Are we within the time limits of being able to check our luggage in at AUS all the way to our final destination of SIN? Or will we have to claim baggage at LAX and check it again there?

Also, we plan out leaving LAX and going to the beach to kill some time. When we come back, do we check in at CX for our boarding passes? Or would they have already been printed out by AA at AUS? I've never had two separate tickets on an international trip before so sorry for the newbie questions!
