I have read that it is better to separte the PNR to increase the odds of the upgrade. There is a separate traveller function on-line. Does this separate the PNR or must I call. ( I just hate to be on hold for so long). Will she need to use her own miles ( which she has ) to upgrade if we do this. They have already taken the miles from my account.

Yes you can separate it online..there is a link when you view the reservation to separate the travelers. If you're both the same status, and you don't mind the risk that one will be upgraded and the other won't..then yes I would separate so as to improve the chances that each of you individually will be upgraded (perhaps at different times). If you insist on both of you being upgraded or neither.. then leave yourself linked.
