Some airline FFPs have been giving us great routing possibility for years, and then some idiot boasts about it here on FT and then that possibility becomes a thing of the past. ie AA's Oneworld awards.
The DC "anomalies" had been out in the open for years though. I thought they'd tried reining them in, but the opportunities remained.
The flexibility inherent in the redemption procedure cerainly made life more interesting. It allowed what HIDDY refers to as piss-taking, what I prefer to call "creative routing"
The assistance of many call centre staff in developing those routes, finding seats and gaining approval was very much appreciated; some were less confident, less forthcoming, but I never had cause for complaint.
Indeed, comparing the DC experience with the opaque rule-based redemption system at Lufthansa at 10p a minute, it's a hands-down win to the boys and girls at Pune.
