These two hotels are totally different.

If $$ is not a big issue, or you have a lot of points to redeem, or travel experience is very important to you, definitely go to W=A, which offers high-end luxury premium accommodations. In addition, the Bund is amazing and as a 1st time visitor to China, you will be fascinated this unique offering of W=A.

Hilton Shanghai, on the other hand, is more business type hotel. To that end, I don't think it has much difference than any other Hilton in North America, except foods in the Executive Lounge. Plus, I am personally not impressed by this property.
