Dunno what the concern is over food being nearby in Kauai. Almost everywhere in Kauai you can find a chicken place. Fresh eggs are just a bush away, literally.

Agree that for kiddos go Hyatt.

That changes the equation. Depending on how little they are the Hyatt will be a better option. I know some parents of very young kids who consider the St Regis a nightmare (due to the danger of falling associated with the sliding door window). Kids of all ages will probably vastly prefer the pool and activities at the GH.

I would say, with a family of 4, that's too much stress. I would pick one hotel on Kauai and stick with it (in your situation likely the Hyatt).
