Seriously? There isn't much within walking distance of the St Regis, but the nearby town of Hanalei has some great options.

That changes the equation. Depending on how little they are the Hyatt will be a better option. I know some parents of very young kids who consider the St Regis a nightmare (due to the danger of falling associated with the sliding door window). Kids of all ages will probably vastly prefer the pool and activities at the GH.

I would say, with a family of 4, that's too much stress. I would pick one hotel on Kauai and stick with it (in your situation likely the Hyatt).
