The fact that anyone thinks this is invasion of privacy is rediculous!
I agree with what you're saying... Its not an invasion of privacy because the information is public, but I do think it is in poor taste. What would happen if I looked up the home phone number of a hotel employee from directory assistance, calling them the night before I arrive, asking how their kids are and let them know what time I'll be arriving in order to give them a more personalized experience? I think most would call me a stalker

The other key point is that none of the experiences have been about Global Personalization or creating a better customer experience. All of the experiences mentioned have been around policing SET codes, and the guests weren't informed they would need additional documentation until a few hours before arrival.

If SPG wants to police stuff like this then they need to clearly state what will be required at the time of reservation, or do some level of SET code confirmation at a corporate level so that you don't have to prove yourself over and over.

My rates are valid, but I am not about to have a conversation with my boss or customer on why I need a letter stating I am on a certain project when I'm often choosing to stay a bit further away from the office to be at an SPG property.

Realistically, anyone can print up a letter or business card from any company so its really a moot point.
