There is a good possibility that I may qualify for Platinum Medallion status this year. I noticed that one of the choice benefits was gifting Silver Medallion status. Three of my best buddies are officers in the U.S. Navy and have to fly commercially from time to time and a good majority of the time they are on DL.

As I understand government employees fly on discounted full Y fares and as we all know full Y fares are upgrade eligible immediately if there is V inventory. My questions is if these discounted full Y fares are still treated the same in regards to upgrades? If the upgrade priority is the same a regular Y fare then this would definitely be an incentive for me to reach Platinum status. The only hard part will be which friend do I gift the status to...
