Correct there are RNAV approaches, but the DH on the RNAV 8L is I think is 655ft which is not brilliant.
Sadly, that's why "precision approaches" [either ILS or PAR] are just that. A mix of elevation and azimuth that ticks all the boxes.
Fond memories of using PAR with a VC-10 … careful use of the gain controls and you can have 3 radar returns [nose, wing and tail area] and even see the arrester cable in addition to the touchdown markers. All it needs then is a pilot who does what he's told, instead of forever looking up and making his own estimated corrections [any ex-Lightning pilots here?]
